Play sentence substitution. This is how to play.
Write the sentence; ‘The pig is in the hut.’ for your child and then cut it up, leaving each word on a separate piece of paper. Next, ask your child to put the sentence back in the correct order.
Top Tip-Use the capital letter and full stop as clues to tell you which is the first and last word in the sentence.
Then write the words cow, shed, car, chicken for your child on separate pieces of paper.
Now substitute words in the sentence and see if the sentence still makes sense.
e.g. swapping hut for shed so the sentence reads; The pig is in the shed.
Do this a few times and encourage your child to read the sentence each time.
